I got the Stage 1 kit from GPS in the mail today. Installed it all and now the engine cuts out badly with hard acceleration. Not mounted to go kart. Just on the ground. Pulled plug and it's black and dry. Cleaned it well, reinstalled it and no change. Idles fine and runs mid rpms fine. Cita our and spits and sputters when trying to wot. Almost backfiring. Changed main jet, kn style air filter(no change on or off) and header. I deleted the governor properly and the low oil shutoff. I'm stumped

IM going to guess, since its not on any load, its just doing what it would do if it had, just really quickly...

Thanks for the reply. What do you think is the issue? Engine didn't have this issue prior to changing the jet, exhaust and air intake. I'd hate to mount it to kart only to find out it's bad or needs repair. I replaced the fuel line with new 3/16 id making sure it was short enough to not have a kink

Good to hear..
So what gasket was the one that had made these problems?...
The one at the insulator plate??

I swapped the carb and while doing that I realized I had a gasket wrong. Issue is fixed.

This is one of the things I will check myself. And often tell other folks to look for as well if they mention a carb swap or removal. It's easy enough to put one on out of place. I know I've done it before. Especially when I'm in a hurry because I wanna hear a new stage one bark to life. But if you say hey man double check your gaskets 90 percent of the people out there will end up getting a new carb and going through their engine first instead of double checking themselves.

Good job and good for you. Maybe someone else will see this as a good example. Those gaskets can cause lots of bad mojo.

I bought 212 hemi for 20 bucks once because it wouldn't stop leaking fuel. I didn't even look at the engine. I just tossed the guy a 20 and he tossed it in my truck. I took it home, put some gas in it and fuel went everywhere. I put about half a turn on the bolt on the bottom of the bowl and pulled the cord a couple times cranked right up.

Glad you got it fixed! It's the little things!

Man I'm glad I got it fixed too. It was the gasket between the carb and the intake adapter. . It's a shame too because I used up all my cuss words trying to figure it out! Lol.

I hate that plastic thing. It's really just an insulator for the most part I think. To keep the carb from picking up too much heat from the cylinder head and vapor locking or boiling fuel in the bowl.

I get the fact of economy and space saving. But it would have saved the would of small engine enthusiasts a lot of headaches if that thing would have just came with an intake runner on it instead.
