Alright so after about a week of constant sanding, wet sanding, wire wheeling and priming my go kart, i finally ended up painting it yesterday with flat black paint. Well it came out nicely but all i had left to do was put on a clear coat. I waited 24 hours and bought Matte clear coat so it still keeps the flat black look, not gloss. Throughout all this, i did not get one bit of help from my brother but he insisted that he sprays the clear coat. So i get home today and i go take a look at the go kart, its white flakes ALL around the frame. What could have caused this? Bad painting ability or was it the paint or maybe the weather? And what can i do to get rid of white flakes and recoat it without having to redo the entire thing

Did you use laquer clear and enamel paint ? Or the opposite.
Using the wrong clear will make it flake.

Not sure, this is what i used, but im guessing it was probably cause of where and how my brother painted it because before he did it, i did the back part only and when i came back, that was the only spot that looked normal the rest was white, but after an hour of cleaning with water and sponge + light sanding with very fine sand paper, i managed to get the white off but not take the paint off and ended up recoating it so it came out nice like it was supposed to and has the finish i was looking for :cheers2: But thanks for the help anyways!

That rusto clear stuff sucks to be honest.. Love the paint. Hate the clear. Go with krylon acrylic clear! it gets hard, and cures quickly. For any parts like the front bumper that might hit road pavement or bush. Stainless steel plate is a must! other wise, in about 3 months of good use. those scrapes turn into rust, and rust goes under paint. 5 months later, you got a rusty flaky paint.

I also heard if you use a heat gun on powder coating stuff, it works.
