cleaning rims

I would like to clean my cast aluminum rims from my old Manco cart. Any suggestions on a chemical bath, or something else I could do to clean them up. I do not care if they shine, I just want the crud/crust off.

Comet cleanser and a toothbrush.

you could try brake cleaner and a lot of scrubbing. ive never tried what russ recommends but sounds like it would do good, as it does for sinks and stuff.
