Remove the batteries and electrics, install your 16hp, add a 12v starter motor to the drive line powered by 1 battery and you have your hybrid. Much lighter. OR, move out of California! LOL!!!
I think thats pushing my luck. Thats pretty close to how all cars start, and I could just buy two 12v batteries and get rid of the controller and install a 48v motor. Then have a small alternator charging the batteries. Id never use the motor, its just there to pass tests.

Yeah, something like that. Whatever you do, keep us updated. I'd like to know where this ends up.

Slap a sportbike motor in it then watch people laugh at ur car till u fly by them @ 150mph. lol

Or slap a GM 350 in the thing and watch there faces when u do wheelies at innersections. :)

Ever see those old VW Bugs with 350 chevys stuffed in the rear? was popular in the 80s. Things are wheelie machines & quick.

Well ive just made the $500 it needs but im still considering. It really does need a lot of work like the brakes that I cant be cheap and leave as is. Its got 4 wheel drums, how much do you estimate it will cost to convert to all discs?

Lots, Drums are fine and easy to work on.

I would at all cost keep in 100% original. Thats where the value is.

I say slap this motor in and that chassis on. But If I owned this I would try to keep it 100% original. IMO it would hold lots more value. Those ones that sold on ebay for $600 to $800 did not run as well. Have you seen the asking price for working citicar?

Like I said earlier, I dont want to sell this car for a long time. But ill try to keep it mostly original. Not to disregard what I said immediately before, but does anyone know much about leaf spring suspensions? Ive heard that the suspension is really hard and makes for a very bumpy ride. I maybe want to remove a leaf. I think its got two assemblies of three leaves and a a shock absorber per axle.

As for your brakes, if the brake shoes are bad and you can't find replacements, get the originals re-lined. It's simple for a brake shop to do and it's cheap. I had all the shoes from a 1929 Essex re-lined for $$80.

I think the problem with the brakes is that theres leaks somewhere, or that all the fluid has already leaked out. When you push the brake pedal theres no resistance at all. The master cylinder might need to be replaced, and all the brake lines too.
