personally, i'd go with the Briggs. i find them to be less of a hassle then Tecumseh engines.
and easier to work on than Hondas, as i have more experience with Briggs. but thats just me, its your ride lol.

I'd say its more like this (in my own experience and opinion)

Kohler>Briggs/Honda > tecumseh

I love Kohlers for workhorse engine, they just keep going, but most dont have a lot of performance parts. I'd say briggs and honda are both fairly equal in quality, reliability, and modability, and i have had nothing but bad experiences with Tecs

:iagree:

Tec carbs can be a big pain.
i have a 5hp Tec on a 1975 Ariens snowblower, it runs pretty good, though Tecs are more work to maintain, needed oil seals and all sortsa crap. never have those problems with Briggs engines.
i avoid buying equipment with a Tec engine on it :/

You can do whatever you want, my kart has a tec on it thats got no more than 6 hours of use, and it already burns a little oil, has carb problems (and since the stupid EPA **** i cant adjust it easily), and the on/off killswitch is already not working right (sometimes i can turn it off sometimes i cant and sometimes it turns itself off).

5HP Honda = GX140 = No mods

6HP Tecumseh OHV = Fail = Um... what did I just say?

5HP Briggs = Flatty = Plenty of mods

5HP Honda = Great for continuous work, if 3,600RPM suits you and you need no faster, don't look further!

6HP Tecumseh OHV = Use it until it fails. Would be my last resort.

5HP Briggs = Win. This or the Honda, but Briggs 5HP has plenty of mods available if you like speed and powa.
