chinese kids go kart - needs motor

Hello,

I just bought a used go kart. It is exactly like this:

the only problem is the motor is toast. the guy before took it apart and lost some parts. i got the unit for cheap. I would like to but another complete engine or some type of easy replacement. thanks. i searched the internet but did not find much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The engine is more than likely a GY6 engine. You can buy replacements. Post a pic of the engine so that we can help you, otherwise we will only be taking stabs in the dark

Thanks for the welcome. I am attaching a couple pics of the engine. I have tried searching the internet and cannot find a source for the same engine. I see some similar on eBay for over $300.

I am open to the idea of putting something completely different in.

I wonder how hard it would be fit something like this in.

Is that gear box for reverse if so you might need to pull it apart and check the size of the out put shaft i would want to keep the reverse if possible.

I don't think it has reverse. It does have electric start though.

Well that aint a GY6, thats for sure. This buggy must be quite small with an engine that size

I am open to putting in something different. Maybe something a bit bigger.

A Honda/clone will work but, it involves extensive remodelling of the frame; you'd need to cut off the existing engine mounts, weld in a new mount plate & move the axle sprocket to the other end of the axle or even, possibly, replace it, depending on what size it is...

I went and picked up one of these engines:

I pulled the old engine out.

I now have to figure out how I am going to mount. I am planning on welding a new mounting plate. I will have to move the sprocket on the axle. I am going to see if I can just pull out and flip the axle over.

Can someone recommend a good clutch and some gearing. the axle sprocket has 47 teeth. The old engine sprocket was 10 teeth. the rear tires are 13"

Get a Max Torque "Fun Kart" clutch. They are around $30.00.

just flip your axle and adjust according parts.

No, don't flip the axle, there's no need, besides, if you flip the axle, you'll need to move the brake caliper; just drop the axle & move the sprocket...

We can't really suggest anything regarding gearing/drive until we know what size chain is currently in use

I just took out the rear axle. The sprocket and brake disk are connected to the same hub. I would rather not flip the axle because I would have to remount the break calliper. Is there a way to mount another sprocket on the axle?

I pulled the axle with the plan of installing a new sprocket. I went to purchase a new hub and sprocket. The axle was an odd diameter. I had to go and get the axle turned. I had a machine shop take it down to the 1" diameter on a lathe.

Too late now but, you would've been better off having the hub bored. You will also need a keyway cut in the axle to secure the hub...

Not necessarily- could be done with set screws.....

I will be using set screws. The hub has 2 of them. The hub will have a weld on sprocket. Machining the axle will allow me to change the sprocket later without having to get another hub machined.

i now have my sprocket and engine. the motor runs and everything looks complete except hooking the gas pedal to the throttle. the gas pedal in there pulls a cable. the throttle on the new engine is a push. Can someone please offer some advice? An easy solution is preferred. thanks
