So I love getting paychecks from YouTube, but I've only gotten 2. California is the only state that has legalized lane splitting for motorcycles. Funny thing is, in AZ, cops are allowed to lane split on their bikes but no one else? Bull honkis. So I do lane split all the time. And I film almost all my rides. So it seems natural- share video to help promote lane splitting knowledge and understanding. And I get some scratch doing it! I've only uploaded this one video but I'm working on a second. I'm going to show safe lane splitting, dangerous splitting, and scenarios when it's not smart or safe to split. There is nothing special about the following video but it's here nonetheless for your viewing enjoyment.

As a car driver, I dont mind lane splitting. I usually try to move over and give the splitter alittle more room. Most Bikers will give you a wave.
Its just when Morons do it cause heavy bumper to bumper traffic is only going 55 and the biker wants to do 70. Then it is dangerous and stupid.
Or when traffic is stop and go, and the lane splitter wants to do 55 plus. Again dangerous and stupid.

I did read the research by UC Berkeley and they say splitting by only 10-15 mph greater than surrounding traffic is safest, regardless of speed. I kind of knew this before reading their research. Its scary as helll to fly between cars going much faster than they are.

Huh... Didn't know I could do lane splitting there. I have never split the lanes on my bike. Guess I will get to try that soon. Especially since I sold one of my vehicles and my motorcycle will be my primary vehicle out in AZ for a while.

It's not legal Nick, I do it to raise awareness and because I'm comfortable doing so. Many of us would like to see it made legal but just be aware of the risk of getting caught before you start doing it.

I hate the traffic on the 101 and 202 out there... People just don't respect bikers.

New Ca. law is wierd.
I do not think they legalized it per say with a law.
They just said it is NOT Illegal.
and then the Highway Patrol refused to comment.

Left alot of Bikers confused and frustrated.

I know I put in the YT video description but I'll re-say it, he was aggressively passing/cutting off the white work truck, I didn't realize that and I went to aggressively lane split them because I was irritated he pulled in to my lane, as I passed him, I saw a 4-5 year old little girl in the front passenger seat with no child seat. So of course 2 wrongs dont make a right but I maintain he is the bad driver between the 2 of us.
