I want to build a go kart, and have built a basic parts list. What am I missing or don't need?

Depending on the brake caliper it also may need a bracket for mounting. (I'm assuming a disc)

I was thinking a band brake, would I still need a bracket?

brake bands would need:

A rod welded to the frame that one side of the brake band slips on, which will have a pin that holds it in place.

The other side of the brake band will have the brake rod attached to it, with a pin that holds it in place.

Then some type of return spring/mechanism that forces the brake band outward when you are not stepping on the brakes
