Cheap Tq Convtr Vs a More Expensive one

I need a 40 series torque Converter for my kart. I see complete kits from under $100, to a “Premium” one from GoPowerSports for $369. So why such a big cost difference? Are the more expensive ones that much better? I don’t mind spending the money. Just don’t want to if I don’t need to. I am gonna build my 13hp up to around 20hp. So I’ll need a good one. What do you guys think?

I actually have one of the $100 knockoffs on a kart with a mildly modified 420 Predator. It has a header, free flowing air filter, bigger jet.

It has maybe 40-50 hours on it. It works just fine. With a good belt the total cost is closer to $150.

I would avoid the backplate type.

If you have the cash, you might consider stepping up to a better clutch. Wider ratio and much tougher. Not cheap for a complete setup.

Have one of the cheep 40 series from ebay. Drive it onbold logging trails each summer on vacation. Each trip is a 30 mile loop lots of hills. Probably do 100 miles each summer. 3 years and its still holding strong. 40 series is on a tri sport with a stage 1-2 420cc.
