Cheap Kart Wheels?

Does anyone know where i can get some cheap pneumatic wheels around 12in diameter as drive wheels. I only found 22.99 wheels from Northern Tool but as they spin freely i dont know. Any links would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

Are these rims going on a live axle or a 1-wheel drive setup?

It would also help us to help you if you posted some good pics (and any sizes/dimentions or mesurements you could suply) of your karts rear axle setup so we'll know for sure what all you'll be needing here.

If you dont have any pics avalible, find/post a link to a thread here with some good pics of an axle setup just like yours.

hey anderkart and well my axels are threaded rods from a hardware store. its 9/16 but i have plastic rim wheels now that have 1/2 inch bores and i force threaded the tires on and have the sprocket bolted to the wheel por the drive axle. ide be willing to change my axle size i just need some sort of link for cheap wheels that would work on the drive axle with a 60 tooth sprocket that has a diameter of 7 1/4 " so i need at least 10in tires with a width 2in-6in. if you need any more info a will gladly get back

Your 9/16" threaded rod axle is going to make it difficult to attach any regular go kart style wheels or hubs. Besides your unconventional axle size, live axle kart wheels/hubs usualy require a keyway machined into the axle.

You might be able to machine/build some adaptors to get the mounting size up to a 1" diameter with a 1/4" keyway, if so you could then just buy some direct fit go kart rims or hubs. Short of that, you might find some 9/16" hub-size wheels you could possibly mod to work with in this search link:

I looked through a few pages of this search link and found some mower wheels use a 9/16" mounting size...

Get a new axle.

As for wheels, I used cheap car wheels from ebay. Advantages are that they'll last forever, but you have to have diff. gearing and they won't fit on most karts.

as i said i would be willing to switch axle sizes in a secong. its just threaded rods, from lowes actually, are the closest i can get to axels. i have half inch hub wheels that as i said i threaded the wheels on.

im also not very fond of ebay. i have bought several items from reputable sellers and always end up with missing broken or wrong products

You'll definately want to change that, if it's feasible for you. Threaded rod is grade 2 at best. You could concievably break it just by stepping on the brakes too hard! You might actually be better off using some sch40 black pipe as an axle. Make no mistake, you're better off (FAR better) by using a proper hard steel shaft. I'm just thinking of potentially better solutions if you CAN'T get a proper axle...

i know what your saying and thanks for not being dicks about it guys. you were real helps. its just im on atight budget and hate ordering things online. i like purchasing it up front. i know its a bit much but do you know any hardware stores other than northern tool that might have some sort of rod that could be axle worthy?

J/K, man, where are you located? I'm in WV and I usually get my stuff in a few days when I order from them. I think they are in Ohio if I'm not mistaken.

Man a tight budget, no local go kart shop and no mail ordering is making it kinda tough to help you out here. Maybe you should look around for a used go kart for sale that already has the axle, wheels etcetera. I've seen several complete karts (w/o engine) selling around here for under $50 lately. Your probably going to have to pay more than that for just a couple decent rear tires.

If you have a metal supply yard they may have some hardened 1" diameter round stock available, you could then have a machine shop broach a 1/4" keyway into it so you could mount regular go kart style components. But then again unless you have a local go kart shop you'd still probably need to order the rest of the axle components from somewhere...

ander kart that used cart idea aint bad. i just got my engine clutch and chain all came today. i went on craigslist and a couple towns from me a guy is selling a complete gokart w/o engine for $100. i just have to do a little adjustment to the sprocket position cause its for a clockwise spinning shaft but that shouldnt be to hard. thx guys for all your help again. uve been real cool so if i ever need any advice or tips you guys seem like the people.

well it was in an email but the engine looks like an old bicycle enine? the shaft spins clokwise so its mouted on the right instead of left. normally its mountd on the left with a counter clockwise spinning shaft
