Cheap Chinese Go Karts

So I have a couple Zooma Tyrod II's with 33cc engines. I have been getting them to work as good as new by replacing a bunch of components. I know everyone says they are not desirable, but hey, I got them for free, parts are cheap, and the kids love em. But I am having troubles getting the carbs tuned. Those **** single screw carbs suck. I came across some people saying that upgrading to a 15mm carb (10mm stock) will help with the power band and low rpm response. But my experience is that it didn't really help at all. If anything, it made the go kart perform worse. I am looking to get these things perfected (as much as you can perfect garbage). Someday I will probably look at upgrading the engines to something bigger. I would really like to see some discussion on what you guys have done to yours.

Bigger carbs don't help bottom end response. You mentioned it seemed worse, and that is probably true

The reality is, nothing is going to give an engine with the displacement of a shot glass any real sort of "bottom end" performance. It probably delivers a peak torque of somewhere around 1 ft/lb at 5000ish rpm, and around 1hp at maybe 7,000 or 8,000 rpm.

Given the size of the kart, your best bet might be to find a 2-3hp Briggs flathead, or look into the 79cc predator. What you can do with it really all depends on what sort of mechanical and fabricating abilities you have. I know one member crammed a 212 predator with a tav2 and a live axle onto one, but it definitely wasn't a simple bolt-on swap.
