charging system, above 3600 rpms?

So, here goes the question.

So i have a 3amp or 10 amp charging system for a honda gx340, and am thinking about putting on my gx390. It has the standard coil, but also a regulator/rectifier thingamabob.

If I am driving the kart around, ocassionally going from 3600-5500 rpms, would that fry anything? Would the regulator/rectifier keep everything in check?

I know basically nothing about these things.

I'm not sure and that's a good question. I would run it. I don't think the amount the coil is making wouldn't change much. Some people race their cars and run high rpms. The alternator and regulators don't blow smoke.

The 24-28 volt output shouldn't fry the rectumfrier, the 3 amp and 10 amp systems all use that voltage. You could always put the DMM to AC and test the voltage from the primary coil tho. The only thing that really matters on rectifiers is the load, after a certain amount of load the Waveform could collapse. Also, since you said you know nothing about them, they are just diodes or multiple diodes that chop off the negative half of AC.
Sid is totally right, to be sure you'd need a datasheet for the rectifier. Can always order one from something like a power supply and wire it to the coil, that way you know precisely how many amps at what temps it can handle!

I've been to 9500 rpm over and over with a stock Chevy alternator on my drag car and never fried anything. In fact, the alternator outlasted several engines.

Not so fast guys!

The coil will be fine, perfectly fine no doubts about that.
The coils is only running a little hotter but the engine heats that up anyways,
so pumping a few more amps out is no big deal.

the regulator sees the same voltage alright.. but as I said a few more amps.
And those MIGHT be over it's rated amperage.
Rectifiers get hot as well (hence their cooled in cars)
chances are it hits it's max temp with the currents induced.
A short 5500 run will be fine for sure;
but say a race day worth of abuse might not...

thus frying the regulator is at least possible.
(frankly.. IDK what type the gx340 carries... simple diode? rectifier?)

I doubt you need to care much about it to be honest..
I don't even think you would need to add a cooler or install a higher rated regulator;

But I guess you should watch it and if you see it getting hot after a speed run,
if so, just disconnect the battery from the regulator (and insulate the leads) that way there is no current flow possible and the diodes should not get hot at all.
