First time I did it myself, I've almost always had a coupon that made it more cost effective to have someone else do it than to buy the 6 quarts and filter myself. But this go around, no coupon. I think GMC didn't design this oil system very well. There is no way around making a mess when you remove the filter. But I have dry-sweep because life, that's why. Who needs ramps when you have scrap 4"x4" boards?!

I had a Ford F150 Inline 6 and the stupid Oil filter screwed on sideways.
Every time oil would run down my arm and Drip off my Elbow.
I hated changing that oil. Back then I never took my car IN for an oil change.
Now Since that stupid Truck, I hate changing oil and Always take it IN.

Think that's tough try a '92 Dakota w/ a 3.9. I think I'd rather jump off the Tokyo tower. According to green shirts and both AZ and AAP, the ONLY filter that will fit it is the same on that's on the Mopar van 3.8. Bought it, and it was almost 1.5" too big. That wouldn't be an issue if the filter mount stuck out more...

So a lot of measuring and 2hrs later... I got the correct filter and oil that didn't have 120k on it.
