Hey I am wondering how often do you guys change your oil in your kart?
And what kind of oil you use?

Unless its a race kart, like once a year. These things will run on anything. If you run in heavy dirt maybe more frequently like once every 4 months depending on how much you use it.

Once a year or when the oil looks like crap, I usually forget when it's been a year and leave it for agessssssssss. It doesn't matter that much though, these engines are designed to run with super sh!t oil anyway. You could scribble the month that you changed the oil on the side of the engine if you care enough.

Normally just use the cheapest oil (usually 10-40w) but I'l use what ever I have left from my cars (which is always good quality stuff) if there's enough.

With the Victa oil changes will be everytime I fill up the tank :p 2 stroke powerrrrrrrrrr :D

Thanks

Just to be a bit apart from the median here I'll say you should be changing it every 25hrs of use. 50 if you run synthetic. This can extend the lifespan of your motor several hundred hours. We change the oil anytime we see one that is dirty, its good for the motors.

Also, we have a marine suction pump to drain oil... It really makes the job quick and easy.

Also, for the majority of these engines, straight 30w is the proper stuff. However i use whatever is on hand, normally 10w-30 or sometimes 10w-40

I haven't change my oil yet sense i had the motor. I am using Mobile 10-30w oil and my motor has been running GREAT. I am noticing that my motor is burning some of the oil but that is normal.

Subaru recommends initial oil change @ 20 hours (first one for a brand new motor), and every 100 hours after that.
Read your instruction manual or look your motor up online for maintenance interval recommendations. Maintenance is cheaper than repairs!

You should research your engine and use the type of oil recommended. (or if you post what engine you have someone here would probably know)

I also think its a really good Idea to drain your oil immediately after riding the kart while its still warm and all the dirt and metal particles are still in suspension instead of stuck to the sludge at the bottom.

I also like to angle the kart way up on blocks so the old oil flows out much faster and hopefully caries away more of the crud while draining.

If you have a splash of this and that left too, it doesn't hurt to flush it thru with some clean stuff. Maybe start it up for a few seconds to get some clean stuff up there to wash any grime off that isn't in the bottom.

For you Honda guys out there, my GX340 manual says, "SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general use. Other viscosities
shown in the chart may be used when the average temperature in
your area is within the indicated range."
"Use 4-stroke Automotive Detergent oil"
That range is for straight 30W, at 50*-110*Fahrenheit.
Listed oil change interval (not including break-in, is 100hrs)

I usually run straight 30 (SAE 30) in flattys and 5w30 in OHV's. After 6-8hrs and then once a season afterwards.

For motorcycle gearboxes with wet clutch you MUST use oil without molybdenum additives. To be safe, buy motorcycle oil from a powersports place. It should have a rating of MA or MB.

For diesels, you need a Cx rated oil, not an Sx rated oil (for gasoline engines.) On a tired one, use a Cx oil of higher viscosity.

In my kart engines, I run the same thing as in my cars, synthetic blend automotive oil (valvoline usually) usually 10-30 winter, 1040 or 2050 summer. I try to change it every 50 hours or so. I don't let it get black looking. For certain, I never let it get as bad as it was when I bought the cars used. :roflol:
