I have a champion power equipment 6.5hp clone engine. I have a modified exhaust I made and a air filter setup like here from AGK but just the filter on the end not the carb(a snorkel), no other mods on the motor all stock,
http://www.affordablegokarts.com/curved-manifold.php
It runs ok, but it runs on the half way position on the choke. When I gun the throttle it wants to die, if I ease into it, it will go fine.

Now my problem(if that wasn't enough).
I went and called the champion people. They don't know the stock size on the carb but will sell me a new carb. Ok cool, not exactly what I want though. I just need a new stock jet to return to if I mess this one.

So I go to a Honda dealer that sell all sorts of lawn and other equipment, they tell me for the gx200 series there is about 20+carb varients, so having a number from the block is needed to get any match for that part, it's a clone not a Honda. They say bring the carb in an we can take a look. But said most likely it won't fit cause its Chinese.
Now I was under the impression, that there was not that much difference between all the Honda's verities themselves let alone the clones that won't fit at all(IE. not many Honda universal parts)

So what can I do to fix this.

Sounds very lean. Either clean your jets (use a guitar string to punch any junk through and follow with compressed air) or you need to go up in jet size (with your air filter and manifold).

Any time you adjust the air in or air out, you affect the A/F mixture.

My gokart did that after it sat for a couple months and the low speed jet was partially clogged and the high speed was totally plugged up with varnish.

This motor is brand new, only about 24hrs on it, I don't ride much but I am taking to shows lately and hate havering to stop and repull.
I know what I need, re jet. I need to know what is a stock size or at least what jets that are acceptable to this carb.
More to like what I was saying there is many varients to the carb(I'm told) but not any or that many that fit with each other(clone and Hondas alike).

Go to Princess Auto, and get yourself a set of precision drills. Use the shank ends of the drills to determine current size, and use the drill end, (are you ready for this?) to drill... SKU# 3410147, $4.99

Already got the drills, I need the jet now.
I would really would like not to have to take the engine out for this if at all cost. I have room to work with the carb area, so I can remove the lower end of it and use a screwdriver to unscrew the part.

Does any know if they(champion) can take Honda type jets or are all the clones just that, completely different in almost every way, including physical jet dimensions and thread size? It seems to me that even the jet would be copied aswell.

I have been looking around..... when I return the jet, do I tighten the same amount of turns as removed, or just snug it tight?

Yes, the stock is installed, untouched by me.

What Honda verity brand will fit this in case I don't get this right or I want to return to stock configuration?
I don really want to spend $30 for a new carb assembly, just to get a $5 part I can get locally.

Standard Honda GX jet, as I understand it.

See this is what I thought, but as I mentioned when I went to the parts shop, the guy said I need more specific numbers(from the block of a honda) as there is over 20+ verities, he couldnt give me anthing to a part i might need. He made(well the 2 guys) sound as if there was a special set for each motor out there??? Ya i know that isnt true.

This is why I posted.

mckutzy, before you worry about re-jetting:
Take your carb off and see if your intake gasket was installed upside down. That'll keep it from making a good seal and cause the exact symptoms your having.

I'll check when I get home, but wouldnt this still be a problem because I have a different intake setup?
When I take off the carb, do I just pinch the fuel hose with a visegrip and two wood block

I feel like a dolt, asking all this, I built the bike but can't manage an engine that well.

I didnt get to the bike yet, its been crappy out and didnt really feel like dragging out the bike, but I will check the gasket soon.
Any word on what jet I can use, like what would be a part number I could get and try to compare against.

:wai: Go back to the affordable go kart site, click on home and read the performance engine section. then on the right side their are instructions on how to re-size a jet. You might have to change the E-tube also, which is explained on their site.

Ok guys, maybe it's this phone I'm trying to type on so my point is hard to convey,
I have the jet in unmodified, stock.
I know how to resize(check and redrill) the jet size.
I have the fine drill bits do a gauge check.

What I need is a part number for a Honda jet "series" that might fit. I'm not really wanting to buy online as no card or just doing all the hassle, as I live like 20 min. from the mower shop.
I'm getting into all this specific type of stuff, cause buddy was giving me "I've been here for X amount of years and haven't heard anything like that before" kinda talk.

First- You need not pinch the hose if the petcock is on the tank.

Second- this is getting ridiculous. A Honda GX jet really should not be that complicated. Can I please ask that someone reading this thread who owns a 5-10 year old Genuine Honda GX200, please just post your model/serial numbers so that this poor guy can feed those numbers to an OPE dealer and just get the dang jet??? I would, If I had one.

McKutzy- All things being equal, you have what you need to just drill your own. Why won't you?

I will drill my jet, I just wanted a replacement part... simply put, and all this was just explaining my plight trying to get one as the dealer was getting anal about specifics Ie. the block number for which I do not have. More or less confusion all around.

The petcock is on the carb next to the bowl.

Thank you guys for your help.
I found out what the part numbers are for the jets. I found out what number my jet is aswell (aprox #72), using the tiny drill bits I bought.

For those who need the numbers here is a site that has all the numbers for the jet sizes with the corresponding Honda Pn. ( If wanted Ill transcribe them here for a sticky , so at least the people will be able to get them from other sources).
http://www.prokartengineparts.com/gx160_main_jets.html

I found a Honda gx200 parts manual online, it had all the Motor and carb variants. They match to what the above site lists, like you said.

When I go buy the new parts, Ill let the guy know about the parts interchangeability of these jets.
