I have an 87cc mcculloch chainsaw engine and in picking up 2 more big mccullochs next week. Im wondering where I could get a clutch to fit on a mcculloch chainsaw engine so I can convert it over to a go kart motor. Or I have s 5hp honda but im wanting to build a go kart that will do atleast 55 miles per hour. If I use this motor and put a straight pipe for the exhaust and rig the governor are there any other things I can do to achieve my goal of 55? I would also be taking the tank and stuff like that off and running. K and n air filter

Welcome to the forum. I do not think that the chainsaw motors are going to give you as much ooomph as the 5HP will. They will also just be more of a hassle to fab up mounts for, get clutch etc.

IMO, use the 5HP and look at THIS sticky

:wai:Check out Vintage go kart forum for info on the Mac's. I think you will be surprised on what they can do with those engines.

The old McCulloch karts were fitted with a 49cc engine & they screamed...

As for a clutch, being a chainsaw engine, it should have a cent clutch fitted...

Old is a relative term I guess. My MCs' were close to 100cc and I have seen some 125's. Personally, I would not waste time on any 2 cycle below 90cc.
An 87cc engine should be ok. Keep in mind that the MC's rpm range is about double that of the Honda.

Do an online search. I am sure there are folks out there than can steer you in the right direction.

:wai: Check out Horstman 2/3 disc oil clutch and Max-Torque clutch/ Max-Torque 2 shoe clutch. Also take a look at this site, McCulloch kart engines.
