the clutchi have will not work unless i do some very vigurious grinding ad possibly some welding.
Im just gunna buy or get a new one.

Im guessing that my engine has a running rpm of about 8000 rpm.
I am going to try and tst this later by taking the tacomiter off my motorcycle and sticking it on the chaft of the engine. This will hopefuly tell me the correct rpm.
THe only thing that i am concerned about is if the reading will be correct, because the tac is off a 4 stroke, and the chainsaw is a 2-stroke. I may also have trouble securing it to the shaft.

I have been pestering my friend to get em tha parts, and he said that he would bring htem tomorro, but he probbaly wont.
I tried ordering the tubing i need (20ft of 1in with a thickness of .65) and it came out to $17. But he company wont deliver unless its an order of atleast $100 so i will see if my friend will put it on his order (his dad is a blacksmith, so they order alot from there) and then i will just make the cart there at his shop. (or atleast cut, and bend it, so that i dont have to haul a 20ft pice of pipe to school, i will weld it at school.)

Any comments appreciated!

I had written alot, but then lost it some how, and i will try to remember....

My chainsaw is a Dayton Electic Manfacturing COmpany 17in chainsaw.

How do i find the rpm put out by the engine?

Do i need to use a jack shaft? and what is it?

What RPM should i have at the rear wheel if i want to go about 30mph max?

Is northern tool a good place to buy parts?

Which Sprocket should i get?

Many more questions, but no more time at the moment.....

EDIT:

I remembered something...
The Chainsaw has a centrifugal clutch on it. Does that mean that i wont have ot put one on in a different spot?

Here's a site that has all the specs for different chainsaws. the Dayton is there. http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/GasbyManufacturer?OpenView

I dont know.

If you cheap like me, you can try using what you get for free, or what you already have.

Or if you dont want to spend much, you can go to a small engine shop and get an edger or a tiller ( i think that tillers have more power, but im not sure) for a reasonable price. These can also possibly be found at garage sales sometimes.

I will post a picture of my frame later on today.

yeah, most clutches lock up at something like 1000-1800 rpm, i can't remember the specifics but if you get the product details it will say. So, for a chain saw that runs at 10,000 rpm, yeah, you might want to step down the speed via the jackshaft before it gets to the clutch.

Well dont you just need it to not engauge at idle correct? so all you need to do is look and see what RPM its running st idle, then select a gearing that will lower the idle to aroun 1500-1800RPM, am i right?

IMO he should put it on the jackshaft so by the time it engages the engine is already making some power

honestly, i'd buy a 6.5 HP honda knockoff engine at harbor freight this weekend for 129 USD.

Im trying to do this as least costly as possible.

Any ideas on the gearing for this thing?

at 8,000 rpm?
