chainsaw bicycle at no cost, going to give it a shot today.

I found this great old Jonsered 910E chainsaw, which as I have read was one of the best Jonsered models made. It has the big 87cc 2 cycle engine in it, its REALLY heavy made. I am going to tear it down a bit and try a direct drive setup on one of my bikes. It's probably not enough power for a go kart or mini bike, but for a bicycle I think it would be pretty good. Pics coming later today.

This guy took two homelite engines apparently and put them into a go-kart. Turn your speakers up to hear the roar!

GO FOR IT, i have a 50cc moped and its fun to scoot around on. I love how in the video you can hear the clutches engage.

Update

Yesterday was kind of an experimentation day, I am going to finish it up today. I tried using a separate wheel to transfer the power to the back wheel, a sort of poor man's chain tensioner. Then I tried two pieces of scrap iron in the brake mounts to hold it on. As you can imagine, that didn't work out too well. Today, I am going to build a cradle for the chainsaw and then run a couple arms from the cradle to the mountain bike's frame. I may have to cut out brake mounts and other stuff to do this, but I think it is well worth it. Expect a finished bike today.

Update

Today, I ditched the RAT BIKE for a RAT SCOOTER!!!
It is going to use the same friction drive setup and 87cc engine as my bike would have. My idea was to make a design with a lower center of gravity and something I could make for free. Also something I could haul a cooler full of soda on!

Here are pictures of what I got done today. This is a half full frame design from scratch, as you can see it is only a partial frame behind the seat. It is really wide for a scooter, if it tips over I will get a lot more damage than the scooter will:rolleyes3: . Tommorow I will post the finished scooter with the wheels and steering on, plus a big honkin; cooler.
I am going to use it to run it around my yard and through the woods behind my house, no way it will ever be street legal!

update

Today, I got my seat on, I got a steering setup mounted, and I added two wheels to the back for stability. That makes it essentially a 4 wheeler. And even heavier than it was before. It is starting to look like a Piaggio mp3 scooter only in reverse{look it up on google, its pretty cool}. Tommorow I will have pics of the finished product with rat modifications . it is going to be just like a rat rod in that it looks horrible and dreadfully unsafe but it is really a blast to ride in its own special way. I'm going to call it "The Rat Moped of Death" . Anyway, look for pics tommorow of the unpainted bike in a new thread and then the painted version on Friday.
