so, i am deciding which chain i should use, 40/35

for the 40
pros
tensile strength of 3,700 pounds
cons
more expensive sprockets and bigger sprockets
and the 35
pros
very cheap sprockets and quite small
cons
tensile strength 2,100 pounds

does anyone have any opinion/experience on which way i should go?

It depends on your engine and your weight and the karts weight. Im 180, my kart is around 200 with engine (tops) and i have a 35 chain, it seems fine for my use, but it is wearing faster than i expected.

i just like things beefy...
on my minibike i used 40 chain, and man that thing has taken abuse... leaned into a turn so far the chain scraped the ground and did a wheelie and dumped the bike and sparks came off the chain... still goin strong!

40 chain is just cheap insurance, just one more little thing you can do to save yourself work and frustration in the long run.

besides can you imagine having a motorcycle like the one your building, and having the chain of a toddlers tricycle on it?!?!

i dunno what it is, but something tells me right when you get a 35 chain, your gunna have a nagging feeling of regret.(until you get 40 chain)

:iagree: with kaptainkrunch... the weights are similar... your bike will be a heavy chunk of steel when ur done itll prolly save you $ in teh long run.

EDIT: hey, what size rear sprocket would you really like to have anyway???(tooth#)

I'm using 520 chain.

Sprocket are cheap and plentiful, don't know about chains though, never had to buy one.
7,000 - 10,000 pounds tensile strength.
