The difference between a #41and #40 sprocket and chain is width. I'm not sure, but I don't even think you can fit a #41 chain on a #40 sprocket....

I think I recall someone running a #40 chain on a #41 sprocket....and it will definitely work short term, but it's best to run with the one that brung ya....and use the proper chain for the sprocket....

Yeah, the one is narrower, so you cannot fit it on the other. Cannot remember which though

#41 is thinner....it's burned in my memory because #35 is smaller than #40....so when I found out that #40 was thicker than #41....it didn't really make sense to me, so I triple checked it....

I have built things using #41, but never #40, so was unaware of what exactly the difference was. Some sprockets use the designation 40/41, and I suppose because you can use the sprocket for either chain.

What kind of chain is this? 40-41 or 35??

HI Everywun-- I am changing this Murray kart from a comet 'belt' clutch to a chain drive through a jackshaft. Too much trouble in dirty environments. Check the photos of the existing rear wheel chain drive and does anybody know what size this chain is?
Thanks
Dave
