chain tension

i need to figure out a way to keep tension on my chain with out a tensioner. i am useing a band brake on the clutch so it will not work.. my engine plate is slotted but it always looses tension right after take off. would putting afew washers under the engine work?

yea,, i have taken em off a few times.. i was thinking bout welding two spacers behind the engine and putting a nut and bolt thru it. when i tighten it the engine will be moved forward and tighten the chain.

yup that bolt idea will work. But sounds to me like you just need some better quality bolts like grade 8 and good washers that wont squish and get loose

my engine mounting plate is slotted so by tighting the bolt it will push the engine forward tighting the chain.

Yea that would work well. I would put a piece of plastic or something between the block and the bolt though. Steel beats aluminum.

i got this welded up today and it works great. i tappd the spacer instead of putting a nut on the other side. also i used a hard plastic cap off a fuel injector to keep it from messing up the aluminum. it keeps the chain tight and is very easy to fine tune. for 20 mins of work it was very successful. my band brake works very well with this set up aswell. i am going to make a plate to mount it instead of a bolt and spacer to the sidecover. i dnt want it to break. let me knw what you guys think.
