Look at the pic. Guess which way the engine needs to slide to tighten a chain. Now what, move the seat frame?

Sorry for my noobness.

I have a brand new chain that I haven't made the on length yet. Exactly how does a half link work, anyway. Never heard that term.

Its also called an offset link but i would put the chain on first to see if you even need one

Get the chain as close as you can, using an offset link (half link) if necessary. Then, if you still have a bit too much slack, shim the engine UP.

Another option would be to mod the motor mount so it had a few more inches of adjustment towards the rear of the kart.

Sorry ander but, IMO, that's a bad idea: The further back the engine is, the less weight you end up with on the front wheels...

Having said that, the OP may not have any other alternative...

As a last resort you could change to a different shaped gas tank to give more room and move the engine forward. Seems like a lot of work but it's less work than moving the seat frame.
Now what, move the seat frame?

Yes I agree shimming is the easiest way to give your chain more tension if you need it with some washers

Nowhere to get a half link around here (which would have been perfect, btw) so I made spacers out of 3/16" flat steel. Worked fine, chain is tight.

My daughter drove the kart for the first time tonight in a parking lot. Never been on one before and was a little afraid of it at first, but she warmed up to it in a hurry! Got video but not sure how to put it up.
