Measure the distance from the middle of the tooth to the next tooth( that is the chain pitch)#35 chain will be a distance of 3/8, and a 1/8 inch diameter pin and a 3/16 roller diamater(the part of the chain that sits down in between two of the teeth.

Size Pitch Roller Dia. Roller width Pin Dia.
#35 3/8 3/16 3/16 1/8
#41 1/2 5/16 1/4 1/8
#40 1/2 5/16 5/16 5/32
#420 1/2 5/16 1/4 5/32

I hope this helps ya out!

Should be snug but not tite, you should be able to squeeze it in a bit but it should not have a lot of slop.

the kaptain is correct, to tight will wear out very quickly, and put alot of strain on the clutch and engine side cover, to loose and the chain will fly off!
