well for my 20 hp im using the gears out of a transaxle and then im going to make a housing in school and a home made clutch that consist of 3 different circular plates that the two outter ones close in on the center one that hopefully i can get rusty so it grips better. kinda like a giant spinning brake pad.

Sorry i took so long, So i went ahead and checked and the alignment was off so i corrected that, but the chain suddenly snapped today and it was both the master links that went. Now i need to get some more im gonna buy like a 10 pack so im set for a while on both my karts

You'll find that masterlink lock clips stay on better if you simply slide them on with the split (or open end) facing in the opposite direction of the chains rotation.

So on a corectly finished installation, as you roll the masterlink around to the top of your clutch gear, the split in your lock clip should be facing towards the back of the kart.

If you dont install it this way, anything that might come into contact with the spinning chain can much more easly force the lock clip off.

that is directly contrary to most masterlink installation guides and common sense, if the closed end strikes something how can it be knocked off. if the open end hits it can and usually does eject the clip. the closed end should be leading the rest of the link, like a comet.

I think you misread my post, we're both recommending the same clip direction here.

Do you have a Lowes? They have master-links and chains in the gray drawers in the hardware section. Ace hardware stores have them too.
