Ok I have a custom yz250 shifter kart. while im driving i hear/feel this crazy popping sound coming from my chain. I have a chain tensioner on it that is sprung so it can move based on how much tension there is but the only easy place i could put it was on the tension side. Could this be causing it? thanks.

I cant be sure this is your only problem but your tensioner really needs to be on the chains slack side to have any hope of working corectly.

With a yz250 pushin over 40hp, slotted mounts are a bad idea.

Not necessarily true, if you use an adjuster bolt to do the tensioning. My mount is made just like the adjustable Briggs and clone mounts, in that it sits over the frame rails, clamps from the bottom, and doesn't even have an adjuster bolt, yet. When I raced it in the 1/8 mile at Lakeland, it was hooking so hard, it actually yanked both front tires, and didn't move the motor, or loosen the chain, so it's definitely doable.
Razor121 , have you looked at this thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4742 , might be some stuff in there to give you some ideas, ;)

bent/fried link. look for kinks. that or you have a few loose rollers. remove the chain and inspect. a dead give away will be missing rollers

ok thx for all the suggestions i got it to tension up finally using some 0.090" plates, that we use on our FSAE race cars lol, to push the back of the engine up just slightly and so far i havent had any trouble with the slotted frame holding up to the engine. I made my own engine craldle for the yz motor that bolts up to the old go kart frame.
