centrifugal clutch

I am a lawn mower and small engine repair shop. I have a customer, brought me a yard kart, to work on. One issue was his old clutch was worn, always engaged.
I purchased a Bravex GKCK0001-BX clutch. Installed, went maybe a 1000ft, and it started slipping, overheated and smoking.
As per images, is this kart to large for a centrifugal clutch? Did it come stock with a CVT, and someone put a centrifugal clutch on, after the CVT failed?
First kart I worked on, so don't know much about different drive options.
The clutch don't look like it was contacting drum correctly, looking at the images. Is there a break-in procedure?

This kart came with a CVT from the factory, you can’t run a clutch with that much weight and tire size. The clutch will burn out every time. Throw on a CVT and you’ll get good performance, tune it proper and it’ll scream. We got some cvt masters here that can help. But easy fix a CVT with a Genuine Comet belt. Bando belts are good too, just no off brand belts.

yeah you nailed it.....too darn heavy for clutch, particularly if the motor is over 3 hp. You need a torque converter. 30 series will do up to about 8 hp.
Over that you need a 40 series / the chinese ones on amazon are pretty good for the price, but DON"T.......DON'T run a Chinese belt on it. they won't last a week. MUST get a genuine "comet" belt. They are a little more expensive, but will last forever compared to the Xhx-xhi-ping model.

You could pull off a centrifugal clutch on one of those, but it's not worth the hassle. Toss the clutch and get a 30 series TC. I had a centrifugal clutch on my single seat full suspension and it was way to temperamental. The gearing has to be perfect for a centrifugal clutch to work.
