EDIT I stand corrected..... This is my nephews AMEX...... It is identical to op's kart...... Right down to the dent in the front......

The telltale sign is the steering hoop; if that was a Dingo, your feet would never reach the pedals

I had the same problem with my son's kart. It has 18" tires and would smoke the clutch in 5 minutes. I could hardly get the kart moving from a stop. I went with the torque converter in the link below. The difference is night and day.
