Centrifugal Clutch Replaced - Is this ok?

Hi Guys,

Just replaced this clutch. Got everything lined up, but is this normal for the chain to move this much? The slack seems just about right.

I'm sure if I put the wheels on it will give more resistance. Just don't want this thing taking off at idle on the kid I'm rebuilding it for.

Well the sprocket is bent. Is the engine slid all the way forward?
If you can’t slide the engine any further forward, I’d just send it as is.

The clutch shouldn’t engage at idle. If it is, the idle speed is set too high.
Is sounds like too many RPMs for idle. Turn the black screw on the carb counter clockwise til it slows down and the clutch doesn’t engage.

Thanks Bob. The engine isn’t slid all the way forward because I thought there was too much tension on the chain.

I’ll turn back that screw and set the idle speed down.

The slack is probably ok. It might just be moving so much because of the bent sprocket.
Once all set with wheels on the ground, put the front of the kart against a tree or wall before you start it. . This way you can check that it doesn’t move at idle without it running away.

A lot of karts, if the driven wheels are raised, will start to slowly spin the wheels at idle.
It's just the natural phenomena of drag between spinning parts.

Running it on the ground though at idle; the drag shouldn't be strong enough to overcome the weight or rolling resistance of the kart, at least not by much.

Remember to keep the clutch bushing lubricated with a few drops of motor oil every few hours of use.

Thanks all! Making another post......just picked up my 1st go kart for my son. I've worked on 2 others that aren't mine.........was time to get our own . It's a Manco American Challenger Fox with the 126cc Subaru Robin Engine.
