on my clutch every single tooth was like grinded down to nothing. is it possible to buy just the cover instead of the whole centrifugal clutch?

the reason this happened was the wheel keeps on slipping off the axle. we tried a lock washer and any nylock nut and nothing works. what would work better, to tac the bolt in place, or drill a hole through and put a cotter pin in?

I like that solution.

Do you know what brand/model your clutch is?

(most of those replaceable driven gears are only made to fit on certain brands/models of race clutches and most lower priced clutches have the driven gear permanently attached to the drum)

i have already taken off the clutch sprocket, and it looks like it is going to fit the same way, the sprocket being held on by one of those little circular pins that you need that tool to widen them to take them on and off. sorry, i don't know the name for it. the ones that are on lawn tractors a lot.

EDIT: it is a Hiliard corp. clutch.

Those are called snap rings. I found the replacement gear your considering over on the BMI site. They dont say what brand/model of clutch it fits. Its kinda strange that they have it listed right in the middle of all their (belt driven) Comet torque converters...

I dont know what brand clutch models have "small or big back" models but I do know that many of these replaceable gears are only made to fit specific brands/models of clutches. (even if it fits your motors shaft, its still has to fit and lock into your clutches drum)

I'd suggest you email BMI and ask If either of these gears will fit your clutch. I'd send them pics of both ends of your old gear and also a pic of your clutch with your gear removed. (they'll also need to know if your running a #35 or a 4#40/41 type chain) Let them deside if it'll fit, that way you'll have a better chance of returning it and getting a refund if it doesn't..

(edit)
Here's a search link to some new Hillard clutches. You'll find some replacement gears on page 2: http://www.google.com/products?sour...a=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4 (looks like some of their clutch models only cost a bit more than buying just a gear...)
