cdi necessary for simple running?

Ive got almost everything I need to get my new 200x motor going, but Im hesitating on ordering the cdi, I know its only like 20 bucks but any money I save on the engine goes into a better kart. A guy at the motorcycle shop who probably thought he was going to sell me the cdi said it was necessary but I guy I know whos been riding motorcycles for 30 years thinks i can bypass the cdi and just wire the pulse generator into the ignition coil. What do you guys think?

You need the CDI.

i agree. i have often wondered if the cdi could be bypassed because on bikes, the cdi can cost up to $800. the components require the wiring the cdi provides.
