I just soap, and lightly oil after, but that's with a skillet i use inside on the stove. Just think of all those extra PAH's hanging out on the skillet if you 'cook it off'. When im camping, the dutch ovens get a toss into the fire upside down, then wipe down with oilo. I don't think it matters either way as long as you oil afterwards to prevent oxidation, but that's just my opinion.

I'm a 3M green scrubbie kinda guy. If there's no green scrubbies available, I ain't doin' any dishes.
One of my favorite cast iron pieces is a 3 legged pot and lid from South Africa known as a Potjie. (pronounced Poykee)
After using, it just gets hot water, and a light going over with a scrubbie. It'll get placed over a flame on the stove to dry, and then lightly oiled.

I once had a buddy, who met a gal, and they moved in together.
She went on a couple weeks vacation to see her folks.
In the meantime he thought he'd do her a big favor.

When she arrived home, she saw her entire set had been gone over with a wire wheel, and was now all bright, shiny silver, and "clean".

They both almost died that day. :D

I soap mine ...yup with a green scubby thing too. Lightly oil it before putting away. My x run mine thru the dishwasher.... Man they'll rust up quickly... New ones get hit with sand paper to smoothen the bottom. Then a good coat of peanut oil and then I season it out side in the BBQ grill

Back in the day when grandma's soap was lye, it probably ate right through any coating and rusted the pan.
