I don't know the difference but a $99 predator (sale price) beats $229 by a bunch.
$130 or sumpthin. The predator is purdy good, the Gy6 seems to be rather "cranky", from what l have concluded. My worthless observation is only from that of someone that knows a little about basics of mechanical device, without the nueances of each specific model.

Putting a predator engine on it while not expensive, would require a lot of fabrication work. Obviously time that you don't want to spend on it. Seeing how the Chinese GY-6 replacement is a straight bolt on swap, I'd be inclined to give it a try.

Get one made for Chinese karts. One made for scooters could have a different mounting arrangement and or drive train location.

Yes, it's tough to figure that out, they all use the same generic language in the sales ads. I did find one on Amazon where 2 reviewers used it on Carter karts with only having to swap in their old drive shafts. I think I'll try that one.

Have you done a compression test? When you say the kids were running it rough and it quit running, did they hit deep ruts? What did they hit that caused the air box to break? If it seemed okay until it took a hit hard enough to break something, I would look for anything else that got bent or broken. Stretched throttle cable? Bent throttle cable mount? Something happened when parts got broken that is being overlooked.

I don't know. It was multiple things, but the drive belt being shredded at that time is why it wouldn't move. No, I don't have the ability to test compression. My idea of working on a small engine is replacing parts and if that doesn't work, replacing the engine.
I was driving it around yesterday before I pulled it apart to post those videos, and it just has no power. Ran ok on flat grass, but any small incline, and it would bog down and almost stop.

If it was my lawnmower, I would say one of the coils was bad and it was running at half power. Since it's a single-cylinder, it's not that.

Is the belt the right length? Oil the chain please. It sounds like it revs up fine.
