Carter Brothers Mfg. Co., Inc. officially opened its doors in the spring of 1936 in the small southeast community of Brundidge, Alabama. Under the leadership of the brothers W.W. Carter and Charlie Carter, the company prospered in the manufacturing of agricultural equipment, lawnmowers, and personal gardening equipment. During those first years, the Carter brothers committed to one simple philosophy, to make the highest quality products at the best possible price.
During the late 1960's Carter Brothers produced the first go-kart for its growing dealer network. After W.W. Carter became sole owner of Carter Brothers Mfg. Co., Inc. in June of 1971, his innovations in go-kart making propelled his once small company into the industry leader it is today.

Throughout the years, Carter Brothers has grown from a small manufacturing firm to a 120,000 square foot facility which houses management, sales, engineering, research and development, quality control, manufacturing and assembly, and warehousing. Throughout this transformation, Carter Brothers has continued to focus its efforts on producing the same high quality products envisioned by its founders almost 60 years ago.

No matter how much Carter Brothers grows in the future, its same time honored traditions and values will be preserved. We will continue to create innovative products for valued customers and for the dealers who have become a vital part of our family.

I've got Carter Brother "safari cruiser" 49CC tecumseh. This little kart has a weird drive to me. its a shaft that goes to axle shaft with a small housing. My problem is that the "clutch" is stuck engaged , preventing me from starting it. Pull rope is very tight. If i lift kart of ground it...

BAND BRAKES vs. DISC BRAKES​

Many times the perception exists in the mind of the consumer that a disc braking system is better than a band braking system. Carter has been using the band and drum braking systems on fun karts for more than 30 years. Carter uses a dual band braking system on karts that require more stopping power due to larger tires. The main objective of any braking system is to bring the forward movement of the tire(s) to a halt and subsequently stop the kart. Carter’s band braking systems will bring all of our karts to a screeching halt. Once the tire skids under the force of the brake(s), that is all the power that is needed to stop a karts forward progress. Also, because of the band braking systems self-energizing nature, only a small amount of pressure is needed to provide stopping power. Therefore, because both a band braking system and a disc braking system provide the same stopping power, the only other items to consider are reliability and maintenance.

Carter’s band braking system is designed so that most anyone can replace the band without having to go through the time and expense of buying pads for a disc, turning (retooling) the disc or constantly adjusting the tension on the pads. The replacement of a brake band can be performed in much less time than replacing the pads and readjusting the tension on the disc system. Also, the pads on a disc system need to be replaced more often than bands.

Typically, a disc braking system requires a large disc that extends well below the frame. Hitting stumps, rocks and other obstructions can damage this large disc. The drum(s) in a band braking system is small in outside diameter and are less likely to be damaged by obstructions.

Therefore, when everything is taken into consideration, Carter’s band braking systems out perform disc systems in reliability and maintenance while providing the same performance.
