I have a carter 2575 that I'm planning on turning into a drift kart.
Here's a pic of the rear.

My question is, is it safe to move the engine plate onto the center bars, and add another coming from the bar that the right side of the engine plate is currently on, going to the back of the frame, to regain the proper rigidity. Then cut out the piece of square tubing under the engine plate, for a sprocket.

I think I should specify.

Move the engine plate onto bars A and B, then run another bar, following the same bend as the side rails, from bar A to bar C. And cut out the piece of tubing under the engine plate.

I might also run two other bars under the engine plate, to lift it up a few inches, so that I can run the axle under the engine, but above the frame. And I have to cut another floor pan, because it was sitting on the ground for a few years, and has some rust issues. So any suggestions on thickness? And is it safe to extend the front spindles out 1-2 more inches?

Oh, and by some miracle, all 6' 3" of me fits in this thing comfortably.

Ok.. Im not knowing for sure... but overall Id think there is a better platform off hand to use for drift purposes....

First.... Whats the power plant?..... your going to need to move the machine fast to get into the "drift"( sorry lack of a better word)...

Is this going to be a live axle... or better wording... this is going to need to be a live axle...
Obviously the exact placement of this is determined by the motor placement... and the size of that.....And thus the reinforcement needed for that...

And then of course the steering... as I understand its also going to need quite a bit more travel than the stock....

Its going to use stage 1, ungoverned 212 non hemi at first. But I'll gradually work up to a stage 4 engine. Max torque #35 12 tooth clutch, driving a 72 tooth split sprocket. I am going to play with the gearing as I go. Definitely going to have a live axle (the majority of the problem) but I would like it to be above, or at the same level as the frame, for a shorter stance ( the problem). I'll be using 11.5x8-6 slicks on racing wheels and hubs for the back, and 4.10x3.50-4 studded tires up front. It's going to be used off road in fields mostly, which is why I want studded tires in front.

As for the front end, I'm thinking about moving the c brackets out an inch or two on each side. But I am going to shorten the part that the tie rods bolt to for more steering angle. Not planning on much caster, and I'll be using a bit of toe out.

And, I know that there are better platforms for drifting, but I got this kart, a Manco 415, a Manco 435B, a new Predator 212 non hemi, and a max torque clutch, for $300. I figure that's about $55-60 for this kart. I'm still not sure what to do with the 415, if that would be better
