Carter 2336 paint color?

New member here...and hoping someone has info on paint colors for a Carter 2336-ZXH. least I think that's what I have?

Paint looks to be mainly blue with a purple undertone.... But I've been unable to match it after searching several paint sections at the local hardware and auto body stores.. Thoughts?

So far, I've:
- Changed the oil,
- Tweaked the carburetor so it idles and runs right,
- Replaced the brake band (still need to replace the drum...and just got those parts in)
-Fixed the sliders on the seat,
- Added a three switch plate with covers (for the LED lights) under the main kill switch on the steering wheel mount,
- Aligned the torque converter belt pulleys so the belt runs true
- Bent the top half of the left front wheel steering knuckle back to where it was originally to fix the "pull" in the steering
- and I'm sure I missed some other piddly stuff..

...and here's the latest after this weekend working on changing out the halogen lights for some LED ones, and added some brackets on the front bar down near the tires for some front LED lights there as well..

Next is:
- Replacing the yellow foam "noodles" with new ones.
- Mounting LED lights on the front brackets
- Selecting a rear red running light and installing that
- Whipping up an AC to DC converter circuit with some filtering to get rid of the pulsing of the LED lights
- wiring up all the lights through a terminal block

Then driving the heck out of this thing with my daughter, if the neighborhood kids and their Dad's will ever let us have a turn...:toetap05:

an exact match will be difficult to find waiting for you on some shelf;
chances are Carter mixed their own colours

what you can do however is have a small quantity mixed for you,
that's not prohibitively expensive anymore..
there are even online sources that sell spray cans with custom mixed colours.
(albeit it's hard with a non professional camera to get a sample across)

Usually a "smart repair" shop near you can mix you a tiny batch for say a touch up pen,
a paint shop and even some hardwarestores should be able to mix you cans of paint
in various quantities.

The guy at the local auto body supply place said he could mix me a custom color in a spray can as well... But the problem was getting the color match. To do that, I needed to have a piece of the painted frame for him to reference, and as you probably know.. there's nothing painted that you can unbolt! Plus the cost of the custom mixed paint runs anywhere from $35 to $70+ depending on color...

Bootom Line: I'm going to keep looking.. there's got to be something close in a spray can at one of the paint stores in the area.

That said, if anyone has a line on the paint colors..send it over!

Anywhoo.. if you want to go local,
check if you can find an RAL color chart you can borrow for a few hours.

roll the kart into the sunlight (of get a daylight lamp)
and start comparing.
once you know a RAL number that is a close enough match you can buy it anywhere

Next best thing:
get a true daylight lamp of some kind and a sheet of
known brand plain white non glossy copy paper.
with the floor pan well lit (with said daylight lamp)
on a nice sunny day.. just skip the lamp and go outside

get the paper and the paint into the same shot
and take as good of a picture as possible.
(ideally make several consecutive ones)
store the picture(s) directly from your camera (keep all exif data included!)
and get a fresh sheet of the same paper
With the known brand copy paper and the exif data a good online service should be able to replicate the ehitebalance as close as possible.
(and thus mix a decent colour)

You can also print out the best photo and (together with a sample sheet of paper)
go hunting for spray cans locally.
(most people can adjust the whitebalance if they have the "original white" at their disposal very accurately)
If you had troubles with the famous blue/black dress or the pink puma shoe images on the internet however, this is likely not for you

Could you possibly do me a HUGE favor?? Fixing up the same cart for my daughter and cannot for the life of me remember where the brake pedal rod sits. Could you send take a pic of the underside showing the brake drum and band??

You're best to start a new thread in "go kart discussion", the original poster hasn't been on since January according to his profile....

Carter 2336 - Update from the garage...

Sorry for the radio silence, life has been a bit crazy these past few months with all that is going on!

To your question about the brake rod - it actually sits above the axle, and connects to the "U" shaped brake band to the rear of the axle. I don't have the kart here currently, but the next time I do, I'll endeavor to snap a few pics and post them...

While we are on the subject: The brake rod of my daughter's kart had worn quite the groove in it (about half the rod was worn away! ) from the prior owner's kids bombing around on it and the resulting vibration / rubbing from them doing so. I was able to fix that by welding in some replacement metal (gotta love that Harbor Freight flux core welder!) and then filing the resulting weld smooth to match the rod diameter. I suggest you check your rod for that same wear pattern and fix accordingly. Not having brakes is a recipe for a real bad day...

I've been toying with the idea of adding a quick retainer that will hold the brake rod up and away from that rub zone, and just need to see if my idea works . If it does, I'll describe and post pics of that as well..

Lastly, the engineer in me was not satisfied with the stock halogen lights that ran off the engine stator. For one, the brightness was directly dependent on the motor RPM's (faster = brighter), and two - they never really got that bright. Besides, who's "bright" idea was it to require you to be going full bore to see where the heck you were going at night? I could only imagine the results of that flawed logic!

So, longer story shorter, I swapped out the roll bar halogen lights for some LED lights - and then found out that the frequency of the stator waveform caused them to pulse at just about the right interval to induce an epileptic seizure! So, back to the drawing board - and the installation of a small 12V battery (out of an old computer UPS I had laying around ) with quick connect terminals, a rectifier & filter circuit to change the stator AC waveform to DC, a bunch of wiring mods / additional wiring, welding of some brackets up front for LED "headlights", addition of some red LED running lights as "tail lights" and now the kart has lights that don't require the motor to be running, can be switched on / off at any time, and they REALLY light up the road / trail! There's a bit more to it that than that, but I'll have to post pics and really dig into what I did if anyone is interested...

Next up - an LED ground effect lighting kit install. My daughter is salivating for that one because it has multiple settings and all sorts of "pretty colors'!

BTW - BostonDad if you are actually located near Beantown, I'm in the area as well. Approximately 26 miles, 385 yards west in a little town where it "All starts here!"
