I just bought a carter 2336-3017 plan on rebuilding it. This is my first time messing with go karts. I pulled the motor off and plan on putting a predator 6.5 HP on. It seems to currently have a comet 20 series torque converter on it. My question is does anybody know if putting the predator motor on and buying a torque converter that fits the predator should it also align to the jack shaft on the carter 2336-3017? Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes the torque converter world need to be aligned properly, However the 6.5 horse predator should be an almost direct swap for the 6.0 horse Tecumseh. They both should have the same output shaft diameter.

I appreciate it. What's throwing me off is the torque converter I'm looking at buying has a plate that mounts to the motor and both pulleys, the TC I pulled off does not have that plate, it has the pulley mounted to the motor and the pulley with the clutch mounted to the jack shaft and of course the belt connecting the 2 pulleys. I don't know how to post pics on here. I'm wondering if I should try to keep the comet TC that's on it. Doesn't look to be in the best shape though

you cannot install a TAV2 Kit (the one with the backplate you're talking about)

keep the series 20 as it is and you'll be fine.

yes.. you could install a series 30 w/o that backplate if you insist...
but it'd be a PITA to align it properly.

Also: that predator has a pretty short shaft..
you might want to think about making a shaft extender... just saying ;)

Itsid. Thanks for the reply. I will take your advice and keep the 20 series for now. This site is pretty awesome. I might be having some more dumb questions as I move along lol. Can someone tell me how to post pics? I'm using a iPhone when I click the photo tab it ask for a URL. Maybe I have to do it from a computer.

I just got the same carter 2336. It comes with a 12t sprocket on the jackshaft, 60 t on the axil. Does anyone know if I can gain speed by going to a larger jack shaft sprocket maybe a 15-17 t?
