Cart Info and Help

Picked up this Carter cart recently have replaced a few things (pulled them off and took them to our local mower/small engine shop).

Brakes (5" drum)
Chain
Muffler
Belt
TC
Throttle linkage

I'm needed to know if there is supposed to be a piece to hold the brake rod in place? It currently is just attached to the rear of the brake pad...

sure looks like there should be. looks like something is missing where that bolt is maybe thats where the brake rod holder shoul be. im not sure.

From what I can see...that looks OK. Looks like the pin is homemade...you can swap that out for a cotter pin or hitch pin. A small washer on each side wouldn't hurt.

Looks like you might want to replace that drum though.

The big issue with it, and why I feel it should have a holder of some sort, when riding, it has a tendency to fall down into he center of the drum

Anyone able to identify the exact model, so I could research if there is supposed to be a holder?

Also, I'm not sure if it's the original engine or not...but it has a 5hp B&S engine.
It runs roughly 15-18mph with me on it (175lbs) and my nephew (100lbs).

All information I've found has a 5.5 Honda Engine or a 6.5 Tecumseh engine...

But it said carter on the front of your Kart. So I googled it and Fount this RECALL, and a Kart that looks very similar to yours Blue with Flames.

Well exciting! and no worries! It's on the list of stuff already to work on...probably will end up replacing both front hubs with new bearings, and all...driver side is a little wobbly anyway...and for a few bucks I can get new bearings, so problem solved...hopefully

Yeah I was not too worried about the recall either This is DIY Karts.
But now you know the Model and serial right. or at least where to find them.

Maybe someone on here will pop up here with experience fixing the Issue, that caused the recall.

The other question (at this time) the kart came with mounting brackets for lights...The round light is mounted on one of them...the kart doesn't appear that it came with a battery, so I'm guessing it ran lights off the stator...I picked up the LED lights, but unless you stay IN IT, they don't burn bright. would halogens be a better option? Or mount a battery and run lights to it on a switch, then put it on a charger after using it...with summer months coming on, riding into dusk is probable...just thinking into future...

Would the stator keep it charged? Or would I need to order a new set up? I'm new to the small engine side of things (starting from scratch on it).

Kart runs great, just want to add a few extras to it...

As long as you are not trying to light up a stadium or something. Seriously though get the smallest led lights you can. Usually the charging systems only put out 12v @ 3-5 amps.
