well i finally got my throttle situation figured out and now im having some kind of carb problems. its a tecumseh OHV 6Hp engine. last go kart i had, had the same engine but the carb had a choke on it. on this one, no choke just primer bulb. so im able to prime it and a couple of pulls later it will turn on and idle. i hop into cart and when i give it gas, it trys to stall but then gets going....i can run it a long time like this but as soon as i let go of gas and give it some brake, its shuts off...any chance yall know why it does this? any help is appreciated.

First if all Thanks for your reply....yea i have tried that already and it seemed to help but then it stopped helping, there is what seems to be an adjustment screw in the front of carb, do u know how many turns it needs to be?

there isnt much of a factory setting for an idle screw, turn it out enough to keep your engine going strong but not engage the clutch. but not too much that it moves by itself.

did you go over all your hoses and clamps to see if their was no holes or anythin, you might need to clean out the carb make sure eveything is working right.

If you feel your idle speed is around 1900 rpm I must ask, have you let the engine sit for a period of time more than a month and did you just purchase this engine? This sounds like it may not just be an idle speed issue, it sounds like the idle restrictor jet is clogged.

Well the motor did sit for about 8 months but the carb is almost new, I can adjust idle ok but there is another screw below it that fell out completely after I road the kart for a block and back to my house, I got another screw from old carb and need to know how many turns it needs to be out or if it just screws all the way in. And also what can I do to keep it from coming out on it's own again. Thanks in advance

get some lock tite, the gas might eat it up though. there needs to be s spring on it to act as a lock washer.

Well I thought there must be a spring, but after the first one fell out and I removed the second one from a stock carb, there was no spring...I guess I'll try locktite. Any idea what the setting is on that screw?

If this is a Tecumseh OHH60, the brass screw in the back does not adjust. It seats all the way in without a spring. There is a plastic cap that fits over the head of the screw to keep it from backing out. The cap is included in the carb overhaul kit (about $15).

The only adjustment on the carb is the idle adjustment.

I just got a used Manco kart with the same motor. Same types of problem with the carb. Overhauled the carb and cleaned it good and that really helped.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to clean out carb and screw in brass screw all the way, and then adjust idle accordingly. Thanks again to all who helped.

Make sure the idle restrictor screw is clean, it has jets in it and regulates your idle. If this is dirty you'll have issues with running at low speeds.

It's the one in the side below the idle adjustment. The hex head under the bowl just holds the bowl on.

The first statement is true. The second is false. The bolt on the bottom of the bowl is your main jet. This has control over your high rpm functions.

turns out i lost the air/fuel mixture screw. it fell out cuz its supposed to be screwed all the way in instead of adjusted out. went to local lawnmower shop and the guy wants 10 bucks! just for the screw! so no riding till i can find a used one from old kart. thanks to all for the advice!
