Carb advice HL-324

Hello, I am building a mild 5 hp briggs, this is what I got cooking.

ARC billet rod
18lbs valve springs
Dyno Cams 95-4 cam (3500-6500 Rpm range)
.027 head gasket + Studs
ARC billet flywheel
Port work, eyebrows shaved
And paint for the extra hps

I am looking for a fuel delivery device , and I think Tillotson carbs look awesome and are more old school. Only problem is I have no knowledge on them. And I dont want to spend alot. I found a $16 knockoff of a HL-324

Would this be enough to feed my flathead? Or way to small? And will I need a fuel pump for the carb? Or is that built in on the bottom? It seems the 334 series has the same bore, and is sold by kart racing sites. If anyone has advise It would be appreciated.

Might be easier to get a 22mm Mikuni on there instead with less hassle.

It would be easier but whats the fun in that? If I wanted easy Id be building a rotaderp. Thanks for the input nonetheless.

And Im about to put a 22mm on my rotaderp anyways, so I want something different on my flatty.

that carb won't work too well ..
and while it's a 6.5horse chainsaw it's intended for..
it's a two stroke with not even half the combustion volume you're dealing with on your flatty.

IDK.. 16 bucks might be worth a try.. I doubt it though tbh.

And yes, a very similar sized carb sits on many racing engines (all two strokes though for all I know )

Thanks. I am waiting on valve springs and flywheel to arrive to finish it. All the bolts will be black cap screws , and black head studs to match.

This thing requires a hand of steel to start. One swift pull and either you appeased the briggs and stratton gods , Or its yanking your hand with the force of a thousand predator motors. Glove is mandatory.

The exhaust header was a tight fit, some rework with the ball peen was necessary.

Anyway it sounds awesome and has most excellent throttle response. Anyone know where to get a 2 7/16 filter adapter for this thing? I can only find the type with 3 set screws for earlier carbs.

It wouldn't be that easy for you to put on a $25 fake Mikuni 22mm, but I would do it. Make an intake for it. You did all those mods and put a turd of a carb back on that thing. You should definately check out another carb. Here's a pic of mine with the Mikuni and custom intake. It ran great.

I want too but it pains me to put a jap carb on this screamin bald eagle.

Why would you want that hard to tune carb. You need a box of parts to do it also.
Put a thermoquad and letter rip!
