Hello,

I'm not sure if many of you know much about car stereo's but its worth a shot.
I just purchased an Alpine 600w 200wrms sub and I need an amp to power it.
So far everything I have looked at is expensive and all I am looking at is a cheap okay stereo.

I already have the speakers and headunit so all I need to purchase is the amp.
JB hifi as usual has many solutions, I was thinking about purchasing the first one, any suggestions?

Thanks, Jack

If you're planning on running two channels on the amp bridged for the sub, that amp would probably be ok. It's very unlikely that it'll actually put out 300W in bridged mode, as manufacturers tend to use the peak wattage to advertise their products. RMS wattage would probably be half that amount, if even that, so your sub should be ok. Better to underpower the sub a bit than too much power. Then you have two other channels that you can use for the speakers, or you can just run the speakers from the head unit.

I got my amp from cashies (cash converters). 130 bucks for a 4 channel alpine v12. It puts out 120w on two channels and 150w on the other two which are bridgable for a sub. I run my splits off the two 120w channels and my sub of the bridged 150w channels so 300w. Its a 500w sub but 300w is plenty. I might get a monoblock in the future as it lacks a bit in response sometimes but all in all a pretty good system.

Out of that page i wouldnt go for a cheapy. Better to go second hand and get a good brand. Look on mobile electronics. Its an aussie based car stereo forum and lots of guys sell there stuff for good prices. I recommend checking it out.

I didnt even think about cash converters haha funny since my grandad was mates with the guy who started the thing. I'll go down tomorrow and see what they have to offer.
Thanks for the help and quick replies.
Just one last thing, on the webpage what would be the best and cheapest one to go for?
Cheers

Better to underpower the sub a bit than too much power

motor_head beat me to it. It's much better to overpower it than to underpower it.

I have a JBL GT4-12 which is a 250W RMS sub and it's powered by a 600W RMS amp. It's never had a problem in the 2 years I've had it. (though I admit, it's probably too much power, but those subs are really tough)

The amp was from Strathfield car radio, cost $80. I thought it was pretty decent for a 2 x 150W RMS or 600W RMS bridged amp. It's made by Bezerk.

Well, I've blown several subs from powering them with too much of an amp, even without trying to abuse them, but I've never had problems with clipping or anything as long as the amps are close enough to what the rated power of the subs are. I used to have a pair of dual voice coil memphis subs rated for 300W RMS, both coils wired in parallel with the subs in series. They would get really hot, but they never blew, with a MTX 23000X amp in bridge mode.

This used to be them: :(

Hey everybody, thanks for the posts!
I went to cash converters and bought a Kenwood 1000w mono bridgeable amp which retails at $300 for $100 cash hahaha the sub works awesome and is so freaking loud.
