I think it would be worthless. A small motorcycle muffler would be better, and look better too.

I used a 12.5 hp muffler that I cut the header down to a 90* notched it and clamped it on the ~2" long pipe nipple I screwed into the exhaust. Then I welded up a support. Quiet as stock, powerful as a straight pipe.

I think the only setup with backpressure is russ's and kenny's. I dont see a car muffler giving any back pressure. What's wrong with a stock thread in muffler or a header?

well the reason i dont like a straight pipe is bc its too loud and the stock muffler wastes valueable performance

Actually you have it backwards. Mr. Russ' Idea actually has negative backpressure because it is a megaphone. Car mufflers are usually chambered which equals backpressure.

Thrush packs, as I recall, are straight through with glass and run about $100.

Pipe I use appears to be megaphone but is actually straight through. The megaphone appearance is due to glass filled area. Lack of back pressure is not an issue in most cases. I've run 4 cycles with no back pressure for many summers with no ill effect. Biggest danger is with fire hazard.

I got a 1 -3/4 one (smallest I could find) for about $18! I'm thinking on possibly using it on my 400cc subaru. Clamping it temporarily to my pipe, it's quieter than a straight pipe but still pretty noisy, but it sounds like a hot rod ATV with a nice deep agressive tone.

Even a big 2.5" thrush is barely $30 and is great quality! (besides being painted red)

So you think a muffler desihned large enough to produce back pressure in a 4 or 6 cylinder engine will add back pressure to a tiny briggs 5? To me it's like putting a 75 mm GARETT turbo on a whipper snipper.

I still cant understand why people care so **** much about "backpressure". I can pull out an example of what happens to a chain saw after running without a muffler/any exhaust system for over a decade, runs great, bore is a mirror.

It really depends on the engine and jetting. Chainsaws are jetted real rich, so they wont burn up easily. High perf. engines are usually jetted right on the bleeding edge so any exhaust mod/ removal will burn it up because it will run lean. Try taking the pipe off your kawi 250, you'll burn it up if you run it too long.

I dont run the kawi too long, I need an air filter not to mention the whole eats trans oil and fogs out the neighbors. And the exhaust leaking at the header(needs investigation, probably a gasket).

GOOD chainsaw are set rich from the factory and adjustable with a flathead screwdriver, most (if not all) new chainsaws cant be adjusted by Joe average and come lean to appease the EPA gods(which simply creates more pollution because these smoked saws have to be replaced, built in Chinese factories and shipped across the Atlantic). Gotta know the guy at the HW store to get the special (spline shaft)screwdriver.
