Hey guys, I have the stock robin subaru ex13 5hp engine on my kart with custom straight pipe and a modded intake with catch can and removed the screw that keeps you from going WOT. So today I am riding it with my gps Speedo. Got a top speed of 21mph lol and I'm having a good ole time and I look back and it is rolling white smoke! I jumped off to see what was up and it was dumping oil out! Not exactly sure where from either. Maybe the crank case or head? Couldn't hardly tell... I pushed it home and took the spark plug out and it has oil on it. So I'm like well it was fun while it lasted. I'd rather have a Briggs or something anyways. Well I just took the engine apart and can't visually see anything wrong like I had thought I would?? No cracks (that I can see) and not really any scaring of the cylinder wall. Valves don't seem to be bent or anything. Head gasket "seems" fine. So what are your thoughts on what happened to my engine today? I emphasize the "seems" because I know some things are basically impossible to see when it comes to motors and possible problems. Anyways, let me hear it! Thanks!

Check your airbox where the vent is from the valve cover, it was probably blowing oil into the intake due to not enough crankcase venting and high rpm.

Well I made a catch can and put a bolt in place of the open hole in the intake. Would that cause a problem? And the straight pipe was pretty oily inside and around where I took it off

I've never had it tipped over or anything. It has ran amazing since I've had it. Started 1st pulls and never once stalled. That's the only thing that has me bummed is how well it ran. Guess it don't like to be revved and beat on Lol I haven't been able to find hardly any after market support for it anyways. I'd like to build a Briggs flat head. From what I've been reading they seem pretty decent with a good amount of aftermarket support.

Aside from my current engine problem, I'd really like an engine with plenty of aftermarket support so I can have as much fun as I possibly can. I don't wanna spend a crazy amount because I'm not actually going racing but what's a good suggestion? Are all briggs good motors or are there certain ones I should go for?

if you say white I don't think it's burning oil (which at leat around here smokes blue'ish to gray)
sounds more like you just OVERSATURATED your mix (i.e. too much fuel)
maybe you jetted incorrectly, or you removed the wrong screw
(frankly the only 'limiting screw' I'm aware of is the idle screw and that's the lower limit not the upper... soooo *shrugs*)

That black sparkplug also tells me that you mix might be off more than anything else tbh.

Now that you popped open the case, you might have injured some gaskets alright, that could cause the puddle, at wors it'S the crankshaft seal that you popped;
that of course needs to be fixed.. but the initial problem to me still reads "too much fuel" from here
