At school I'm rebuilding a little briggs ohv side shaft engine. It was someone else's project but they couldn't put it back together. In the process of them trying they stripped out the magneto bolt holes, they attempted to drill and tap the holes but neither held. So I was thinkin drill it out and tap it to 6mm x 1.00 bolt hole. Before I drilled and tapped the hole I checked to see if the bolts would fit thru the magneto. Which they don't. They aren't lacking much to getting the bolts thru there so I was gonna drill the bolt holes out. Will this hurt the magneto?

doubt it will. ive never done it but if you think about all the surface area it doesnt seem that it will lower spark voltage.

there isnt much else you can do anyways so i say give it a shot. just be careful to not gouge the coil's disks too much and make sure the rivet still holds them together tight.

Please tell me your not butchering a bearing block? And a helicoil would be your best option.
