i got these off a go kart i just bought. i saw that they were a little rusty on the outside, but once i got it home and took it apart, the inside was horrible... i took the to the wire wheel to remove the rust and they are all pitted. is there a way to get them smoothed back out or will they need to be replaced.

if you can sandblast them, great. if not, try a wire wheel on a grinder. and sandpaper. id say they are saveable, theres plenty of material left...

thanks guys....

blaz, i tried those pneumatic sanding disks, but they won't fit in the inner part...

Russ2251, I actually have some of that stuff... i use it in areas that i removed rust from. it turns the rust into kind of like a plastic

redsox985, i think i will give that a try. i'll take it to the amish guy that lives near by.

redsox probably made his better than new, because he took out any slight imperfections it could have had. best method by far in my mind, but you gotta know the right people.

He's doing it all for $20.00... i'm supposed to pick them up tomorrow night.. i'll post some pics of the outcome... i have my fingers crossed....

Actually, Blue and Red both said "sand". Personally, I'd start with something gentler like soda or walnut shells and work my way up slowly, so as to be as gentle as possible.

Good luck, Steve, I hope the guy does you justice.

Sorry about saying sandblasting. I just use the general term for media blasting. The media we had in the blaster at the time was a very fine silica based media IIRC. It was nearly as soft as powdered sugar. It was VERY VERY fine.
