Hey as the title says I'm clueless about my engine on my kart.

I would like to make my cart faster but I don't know what to buy/do with my engine or even if there are parts available for it.

The Kart is a Manco and its a 91 or 92 what model it is I have no Idea. I got it for christmas when it was new and its been sitting in the basement collecting dust. I just dragged it out of my fathers basement last week put air in the tires, changed the oil added fuel and rode it it runs good but not fast enough for me

Here's some pics :

Unbolt that muffler and go the hardware store, buy 1 foot of 3/4" water pipe. Screw it in the EX port by hand as tight as you can, this will be loud(like a harely) but it will have more power.

Another free/cheap mod is to bypass the stock governor. On a briggs 5hp this is perfectly safe and will give you a big top speed increase.

How do I go by removing the governor ?

And I guess its a good thing I have about a ft or so of water pipe that size in the basement

When you do remove the gov, make sure you dont run it too hard for too long. I have cooked a few valves holding it open too long.

to bypass it all you have to do is run the throttle cable directly to the carb butterfly and detach the lever thats coming out of the side of the crank case

Richen it up! The briggs flathead carb doesnt like being run past 3600 much unless its set so rich the engine floods in a minute of idling. I wish these things had accelerator pumps.

Ok so if I remove the governor I have to richen it up a bit

so wouldnt that make it a pain to start ?

Not at all, starting will be easier. Just keep richening till it runs like crap with the pedal to the metal and lean it out till it runs nicely.

Oh I added the 12" of water pipe today. I love the difference in sound but my Neighbors wife hates it  .

I'm def. gonna remove the Gov. tommorrow on the carb where Do I adjust the richness is it on the side facing the pullstart or muffler ? screw or nut ?

I'll have to take pics of the carb since :useless:

I found some Raptor parts on Ebay would they work in this engine ?

Raptor parts work but its not worth building a flathead, cheaper to buy a new more modern engine and build that(raptor parts are no longer in production from briggs). The fuel mixture is adjusted by a big screw that screws into a nut on the starter side of the carb. Back it out to richen, turn it in to lean. Always better to run rich than lean.

Cool. I guess I'll Just safe for an animal :devil2:

Well atleast now I know what that screw thing was I'll play with that and maybe I wont need started fluid to start it anymore

It should start with nothing but the choke, no matter the weather. Starting fluid is reserved for those who cannot tune something to perfection. Dont save up for an animal, about $350 will build you a nice GX200 clone motor that wont kill you.

I'll have to look into that clone.

I think the reason Im having to use started fluid is cause when I was 10 I decided to play mechainic and took off the head and put it back on so it had a leak by the valves I could tell that by the blue flames at night when I spent 20 mins starting it Once I got it started it ran good and when it stalled if would fire up by the 2nd pull. Today I took off the head again and went to the local napa with the head and got a new gasket so Hopefully that will solve the starting issue tommorrow
