I have a 94 CBR 1000f that's seen better days and just thought about the possibility of turning it into a go kart. Would it be possible to build a kart that could handle the torque from the engine?

Mainly on road, might take it off into a ditch or field occasionally. Not looking to race it just something to have some fun and mess around on.

Ohh I won't be taking it to the max speed but thank you for concern

... I remember 'thinking/saying' that, bout a yr ago... nowadays... 50mph just isnt doing for me... :lolgoku:

To answer the original question... yes its possible and has been done on several scales. IMO 1000cc motor w/ gears is abit 'much' for a 'fun' kart unless youve graduated up to the level of suicidal(trust me you wouldnt be the only one). To give a comparison of a go-kart w/ a mower engine on it, and a motorcycle engine...;

5~8hp mower engine(top speed 15~40mph) ~= a factory 3-4 cylinder car, running the AC(depending the weight, gearing and size).

18~25hp(125-250cc w/ gears... top speed around 40-65mph) 4-stroke single cylinder ~= a V8

The engine your wanting... can you say dragster/funny car equivalent(there abouts)... Youtube 'Monster kart'... should be enough said...

:welcome2: You should read this.....http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25081

No, you can't put that engine on a kart. BUT you can build a solid chassis to handle that kind of power, safely. On Road use? Oh! My style!! (I'm a speed freak) Remember these things when designing your chassis...... Low center of gravity, BIG brakes, safe fuel system, seat belt cause you're gonna put some type of "roll over safety" device...... Hmmm ill add to it in a bit.....

Of coarse its possible to build a frame for that engine. It just won't be easy by any means. As stated above a go kart with a 390cc 13 HP generator engine is real fun and fast. People have build go karts withany bike engines, YouTube "gixxer" kart. That was made with a Suzuki gsxrr 600cc and it leaves flames on the ground..... Remember though the faster you go the...........better your video will look.:2guns:

My nephew builds vehicles like that for a living; at competition level, you don't get much change from $60,000...

Hendricks, yes, anything is possible but, the better question is why?

On this forum, we've seen karts, buggies, mini buggies, bikes, mini bikes, you name it but, when someone says kart, that usually refers to a small, low to the ground, 4 wheel vehicle with no suspension, no safety roll bars & a small engine producing under 10hp. Once you multiply that hp number by as little as 2, that's when the safety gear comes in...

So, if you wish to continue, please do so, we will help in any way we can but, just know that, because safety is high on our priorities list, we can't condone it...

Ok, maybe I used wrong word by saying kart, it would be closer to a buggy. Just to ease minds I already had planned on putting/building a full roll cage with racing/bucket seats with 5point harness for any unplanned occurrences. But to answer the question of why, I have the complete bike and only thing really wrong with it would be the frame/body and thought a kart/buggy would be a fun project to turn it into to casually drive in town or take off into the country side with

Honestly dude.....
Sell the bike frame. And engine. Then buy new stuff. If you looked at the gixxer kart then you'll know 600 is just daft. Plus your steering will be shocking.

Sell your stuff
Buy new
For why you'll get for the engine and everything you could build am evil buggy with 250 quad. Engine.. You'll love it. But that's just me...
1000cc is a bit steep unless your building a mammoth of a buggy

AH, that makes more sense & should be an interesting build

Now that we're clear on the what, the why makes a lot more sense

I think you should go ahead and build it. There will be challenges, but it'll make a very interesting build thread. Go for it!
