can i reverse mount my centrifugal clutch

I have a hillyard extreme duty centrifugal clutch 1" bore. I had to put a new engine on the kart and the new engine has a longer bushing on the shaft. It wont let me push the clutch in as far as the other engine did. So now my jackshaft setup will not work unless I put the clutch sprocket towards the motor. This will give me ample room to get make my jackshaft work. Question is I don't know if the clutch will engage backwards? Anybody tried this?
