Can brake bands be "re-lined" ?

Like the title asks. I got time off this weekend and lots of junk. I was that maybe some hard rubber gasket material and epoxy glue.Anyone tried this?

Is it really worth risking your @ss over? A decent new band won't cost much. And stay well away from anything involving rubber.

not necessarily gasket material,Ive got access to a warehouse full of suitable material.I was just wondering if anyone's relined theirs.

I know you can get sheets of actual brake lining material, that would work as long as you use a suitable epoxy.

Got 2 sister's in that area.We used to run all over Mint Hill and Stallings.

I was thinking of rivets at the end also,but they may compromise band strength.
JB weld is hard and inflexible,so I'm leaning toward rubber cement.

heck yea i do it alot on old linings that have come loose or whatever. I use CA glue from the hobby store it glues anything. i think a hard rubber would work ok. depends on how much weight your stopping and how effective you want the brake to be

Alright dudes,I'm officially bringing the DIY to DIY Go Karts.
I didn't find anything to my liking,so I stopped by the local power equipment shop and picked up this for 5 bucks.

It's called Thermoseal Klinger and is used by Toro as an inner drum brake band.
P/N 76-002
It's about 3/16" narrower than than the band,so I split the difference.

I cleaned off the old band with my dremel drum sander,scuffed up the back of the Klinger and bonded it to the band with Weldwood contact cement.
I'll let you know this weekend how it turned out.

Nice. Just for future purposes, I'd put the material on and clamp the band around the drum so theres even pressure applied to the whole band.

Off the top of my head, I'd be worried about contact cement's heat resistance. I think an epoxy would be better, but see how it goes, first.

EDIT- someone commented on epoxy's flexibilty, or lack thereof. FTR, I have used many different epoxy-resin based adhesives, and I believe there are many that will withstand the minimal to moderate amount of flexion required.

Yeah,lol,when I mentioned gasket material in the OP,I had no idea this stuff existed.
The label reads "brake lining for 76-067",which is a snowthrower outer drive.
We don't have a real big demand for snowthrowers around here.
I'll say this though,I cut off the excess with a dremel cutoff wheel,and the stuff is tuff.
Feels like hard linoleum.

edit;I googled the heat resistance for weldwood and it's only 180*.yikes!
If this doesn't work,next stop-Epoxyville

Well,back to the old drawing board.The contact cement lasted for about 5 power slides,then broke loose and shot out the top of the band.
Stayed intact though,so next stop,Epoxytown.

i like you re-lining idea, when you do use the epoxy make sure not to over do it because that just makes it easier for something to grab, i say put a nice fine coat on it and see how she does

The new brake band was 5 dollars but you purchased the material any way? I assume you mean the material was 5 dollars.

Turns out it is,at least Klinger is.We reattached the band with loctite epoxy with 302* heat resistance.It held fine,but the band only lasted about 1/2 hour.
We'll give it another shot after Christmas,maybe with leather this time.

i used a cut up snowmobile belt once, riveted on, works good. used it on my red rocket racing mower, 400lbs+ 30mph, locks up the 25" atv tires.
