I've got my Kart put back together and ready to go but I'm having a heck of a time with finding a secure cable stop for the brake cable.

The end on the pedal has a welded on ball but the rear portion needs a stop.

Every stop I've tried isn't up to the job, winds up getting pulled off during test drives when the brake is applied. This is fine for me while testing it as I'm aware it's happening but I can't have it happen while the kids are behind the wheel.

Any suggestions for a solid cable stop that won't pull off / is up to the task of applying the brakes?

Could you post a pic of this "stop" you are referring to. Most I have see are a bolt with a small cross drilled hole in it and that is bolted against the brake arm( both mech and hydro).

The cable you are using may not be very heavy duty, and was probably made for a hand throttle? The cable stop picture looks like the cable stop you would install on a throttle rather than a brake cable. Most brake cables that I have seen have a sort of bracket brazed onto each end that has a 1/ 4" hole in it. For your bolt to go through.

You could make a heavier duty cable stop. Just go to home depot and buy a 1/4" hex bolt, and a 1/4" threaded rod nut(next to where they sell threaded rod, they look like long nuts. Drill a hole in the nut for the cable, then cut the nut to the size you want it to be. Make sure that when you tighten the bolt onto the cable stop that you have the other side of the bolt almost touching the hole. The idea here is to tighten the cable between the bolts, not against the hole. Hope that makes a little sense. I can draw a picture if it helps

Can't use this set up. Not enough clearance. It would be set up between the brake and drive and any slop or bounce could potentially lead to a tangled and dangerous mess.

I bought the clamps you showed but once I saw it laid out, it made me nervous that it would lead to disaster.

You are exactly right. I ordered the wrong throttle cable and was trying to put it to good use.

Based on the feedback here, I ordered a proper heavy duty cable. It comes with a clevis connector, so it may solve the problem of connection as well but I'll have to wait and see. If not, I'll be begging for more help.

Which one did you order? I am in the market for a better brake cable/connectors as well. For a mechanical caliper.
