Hi-

I am looking at a Kart for my 7 year old son and I think I want a Dingo because it is a pro built kart with a torque converter. I understand that this kart was also built as a Red Fox? How can I get a new torque converter when it burns up a few years from now when this kart isnt being built anymore? I really only have a few hundred to spend, but I have an ability to repair a kart. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum!

Check your local craigslist for karts, usually you can find some good deals if you search long enough.

Red fox is different than a dingo. If you follow the link in my sig below (or look at my avatar pic), I have a variation of a red fox I believe.

Do not worry about getting a new torque converter, if it is properly maintained and cared for, it should last for many years. The only thing you will have to get for a torque converter are belts.

Basically no factory karts are being built anymore. Manco went out of business about 10 years ago. You can find pretty much all the parts online though, so don't worry about that.

Hope this helps. Keep asking questions, we love to teach people just getting started in karting. Don't be afraid to ask "noob" questions either, we will still answer them for you.

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry about getting a new TC. They will be for sale for ever, so if yours does break (unlikely unless not maintained) you will be able to buy a replacement no problem. Manco didn't make the TC's, they just bought them and installed them on their karts

Great info from Souperman and Landuse. I'll just add that unless he's exceptionally tall, your son won't be able to reach the pedals. Not a big deal really (there's plenty of ways around that), but something to keep in the back of your mind.

Thanks for all the help, I have zeroed in on a kart for us, and I posted it's photos in the Kart ID sticky section. Would anyone be willing to help out in the ID?

I paid $350 for this 10hp Kart. I feel like I did ok, it appears to be in nice shape. I have to pick it up tomorrow. 10hp should be plenty.

Thats a good looking kart. Is the engine a Tecumseh?

Yes its a Tecumseh 10hp. hopefully it runs as good as it looks. I thought I wanted to stay smaller than 8hp but like everything else we do we wind up bigger and better than we intended.
